Wind Discounts at Both Courses
Genoa Lakes Golf Club & Resort is now offering wind discounts off of our twilight rates at both of our courses after 2:00 pm EVERYDAY. All twilight golfers will be given a discount of $1 for every mph the wind is blowing. For instance, if the wind is blowing 20mph at the time you check in, you will be given $20 off of our twilight rate. This discount does not apply to our Resort Course's Local Rate of $49, but if the wind discount beats the Local rate, we'll give you the lower rate instead. Both golf shops have been equipped with technology to record the average windspeed and readjusts every 2 minutes. Come on out and "TAME THE WINDS" of Northern Nevada. We look forward to seeing you blow in!

USA Today Article from Sept 22, 2006
10 great places to tee off on a course to die for. Unlike summer-only games, golf gears up in the fall. "The weather is perfect now for playing a round or two," says Chris Santella, author of Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die: Golf Experts Share the World's Greatest Destinations (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, $24.95). Here, in time for the biennial President's Cup, now through Sept. 25 in Prince William County, Va., featuring Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh, Santella shares with USA TODAY's Shawn Sell some special courses favored by the experts.
In Alberta, Canada: The spectacular "Devil's Cauldron" at the Fairmont Buffalo Springs can be a distraction.
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts
Banff Springs
Banff, Alberta
"Situated a mile high in the Canadian Rockies, Banff Springs is one of the most spectacular golf course settings in the world," says Santella. "Legendary architect Stanley Thompson sculpted the course on a broad scale to maximize the impact of the vistas. A hole called the 'Devil's Cauldron' is framed by Mount Rundle and considered one of the game's most compelling par-3s." 403-762-6801; banffsprings.com
Pebble Beach Golf Links
Pebble Beach, Calif.
"Located on the incomparable Monterey Peninsula, Pebble was created by Jack Neville," says Santella. "Masters and British Open winner Mark O'Meara says he puts Pebble at the top of his list, and the par 5 18th hole defines Pebble for many television viewers: O'Meara has walked that fairway as a champion five times." 800-654-9300; pebblebeach.com
Highlands Links
Ingonish Beach, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia
"Cape Breton is one of the world's most beautiful islands, boasting this world-class golf course," says Santella, "Stanley Thompson, commissioned by the Canadian National Park Service to design Highlands, fashioned a great seaside and mountain course check out the par 5 15th hole with its wildly rolling fairway." 800-441-1118; golfcapebreton.com
Old Works Golf Course
Anaconda, Mont.
"Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course was built on the site of an old copper smelter and incorporates smelters and other elements of the defunct mining operation into the backdrop," says Santella. "Most notable are the intimidating black slag bunkers" and prevailing winds. 888-229-4833; oldworks.org
Waialua Municipal Golf Course
Kauai, Hawaii
"Kauai is home to many wish-list golf venues such as Princeville and Kauai Lagoons, but locals, such as former LPGA pro Mary Bea Porter King, favor Waialua Municipal," says Santella. "Tucked on the eastern coast of Kauai, Waialua winds through groves of coconut, Norfolk pine and ironwood trees, with four holes adjoining Waialua Bay and Waialua Golf Course Beach." 808-246-2793
Sugarloaf/USA Golf Club
Carrabassett Valley, Maine
"Hewn from the Maine woods on mountainous terrain filled with wildlife, Sugarloaf affords panoramic views of the Carrabassett Valley; noted course architect Robert Trent Jones claims it as 'one of the most spectacular courses I've even been associated with,' " says Santella. "Holes 10 through 15, dubbed the String of Pearls by Jones, run adjacent and over the Carrabassett River." 207-237-6812; sugarloaf.com/summer/golf.html
Genoa Lakes Golf Club
Carson City, Nev.
"Resting on the dry eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Genoa Lakes boasts expansive views of the mountains to the west and Nevada's great open spaces to the east," says Santella. "The course, co-designed by PGA champion Peter Jacobsen, winds along the Carson River and accompanying wetlands, bringing water into play on 13 holes." 775-782-4653; www.genoalakes.com
Casa de Campo Resort
La Romana, Dominican Republic
"One of legendary architect Pete Dye's most celebrated courses, Teeth of the Dog is named for a local term describing the island's jagged-edged coral reefs," says Santella. "The Caribbean-bordering par 3s are the Dog's main draw and down on the fifth and the seventh holes, you're so close to the water that you can feel the spray." 800-877-3643
The Sagamore
Bolton Landing, N.Y.
"This is a classic Donald Ross-designed course adjacent to a classic resort on Lake George," says Santella. "Routed through a thick pine forest and accented with occasional plots of heather (a nod to Ross' youth in Scotland), the routing offers glimpses of the lake and the Adirondack foothills, plus Ross' trademark small and subtly contoured greens." 800-358-3585; thesagamore.com
Pacific Dunes
Bandon, Ore.
"When Bandon Dunes opened in 1999, it took the golf world by storm, but when Pacific Dunes opened in 2001, it wrested the attention from Bandon," says Santella. "Architect Tom Doak exploits the site's rugged terrain, tremendous vistas and giant sand dunes to sublime effect. Thick fields of gorse punish errant shots," and undulating fairways challenge the best. 800-742-0172; bandondunesgolf.com
